Pyrolysis (2017)

A solo originally set on Lauren Mendelson, Pyrolysis is an a capella tap dance character study of the mythical phoenix. Through the use of sliding and friction to create heat, this piece also experimented with the possibilities absolute time (non-metered phrasing) to balance tap dance’s physical and musical expression so that it could push the boundaries of the genre’s capacity for abstract narrative storytelling.
